About Us < Conservation Legacy < Fight for the Conservation and Reinvestment Act
The Conservation & Reinvestment Act of 1999 (CARA) would reinvest a portion of the revenues from federal Outer Continental Shelf oil and gas development in coastal conservation and impact assistance, land acquisition, historic preservation, farmland preservation, parks and recreation, and wildlife conservation. This landmark bipartisan legislation, if passed, would provide the largest infusion of funds for conservation in our nation’s history, with Georgia annually receiving $40 million for state and local programs for fifteen years.
The Georgia Wildlife Federation has actively supported this legislation from its conception. By keeping a close watch on the bill as it has moved, and continues to move through Congress, GWF has been able to rally its members and give them a voice when it has mattered most.
