Matt Nichols is a partner in the Atlanta office of Sutherland Asbill & Brennan and heads the firm's tax-exempt bond practice. He is also the firm's hiring partner for the Atlanta office. As a bond lawyer, Matt works with local governments, water and sewer authorities, electric utilities, not-for-profit hospitals, colleges and universities to help them meet their needs for capital project financing. Matt has been named to Georgia Trend’s “Georgia’s Legal Elite” and has been selected as a “Georgia Super Lawyer.” In 2004 Governor Sonny Perdue appointed Matt to the Public Finance Options Task Force of the Governor’s Commission for a New Georgia. He attended the University of Georgia for both college and law school, and is an active alumnus.
Despite having grown up in the great outdoors state of Georgia, Matt was an adult before he got serious about hunting and fishing. He has overcome his late start and the demands of work and family life to become an avid and enthusiastic hunter and angler who takes great pride in being a Georgia outdoorsman, sportsman and conservationist. In addition to the Georgia Wildlife Federation, of which he is a Legacy Member, Matt is a member of the Atlantic Salmon Federation and the National Wild Turkey Federation and is a life member of Trout Unlimited.
Matt is a lifelong resident of Georgia who currently makes his home in Atlanta.
He and his wife Ashley attend Northside United Methodist Church.
